Quong Yuen Shing Grocery, 32 Mott Street
Übersicht
Established in 1892 by a member of the Lee family, Quong Yuen Shing Grocery is the site of the oldest remaining grocery store in Chinatown. During the Late 19th Century and early 20th century, a variety of fresh vegetables raised by Chinese farmers in Long Island and New Jersey were displayed in open bins outside of the store. Today, farms from New Jersey provision bok choy, ginger, bitter melon, snow peas, and Chinese broccoli and other vegetables like they did a century ago. It was also used as a mail drop for the local community and mirrored the country stores of rural America.
