Historic Metal Truss Bridge over Rock Brook
Übersicht
The 5 panel bolt-connected Parker pony truss bridge supported on ashlar abutments is well preserved and is one of the few, and perhaps only Parker truss span in the State. In addition to its unusual truss type, distinguised by the polygonal top chord which accomodates strength at the center of the truss and economy of material, the bridge is technologically significant for its early use of square-headed bolts. The only alteration appears to be removal of the original railing.
This bridge originally served as the bridge on Burnt Hill Road over Bedens Brook. Somerset County replaced the bridge in the late 1990s/early 2000s, and moved it to its present location, where it now provides pedestrian access to Township-owned open space.
