Saline Primary School
Overview
Saline school was completed in 1876 and the Dunfermline Press of 17th June of that year printed the following article: -
.
School Opened – Yesterday forenoon, the Public School erected at Saline was opened, under the circumstances of an exceedingly gratifying character. The weather was delightful and there was a crowded attendance, representing all the classes of the community -- a circumstance that was clearly indicative of the great amount of interest which the event of the day awakened in the public mind. David Telfer, Esq., of Balgonar, Chairman of the School Board, opened the school. He said that the cost of the school was £1625 6s. 8d. the price of the site £36 15s. and the cost of conveyance £7 0s. 8d. He was glad to say that there was exceedingly little extra expense entailed in the erecting of the school and that the contractors had done their work in a most satisfactory manner - the architect, Mr Frame, having assured him that he had never seen better work done.
This school has served the parish well over the years and was, until about the 1940s, also a secondary school. The school continues to provide the young children of the community with the foundations of their education.
