This is total bullshit. We never used umbrellas in the building because of the leaky roof. It was named Umbrella House because we planned to form an Umbrella organization for all the squats in the Lower East Side at that time. That fell flat on its ass when the inhabitants of Umbrella House ended up in an internal power struggle - and if you can't unite a building, how can you unite a neighborhood?

Groovin at the RING on Sundays in May: Come to RING on Sundays during May at 2 PM for free concerts by New York drummer Josh Gilgoff & "Glow in the Drum" (www.glowthedrun.com). Josh is the first musician to combine Western drums with West African shaker balls to create an entirely new technique in drumming. Just finished our third succesful year of our Root and Storage Crop Collective. We are also growing our community garden area with new members next year. Wanted to post a picture, but these stupid bit storage things are too complicated to decipher. If anyone is stupid enough to figure it out, let me know. We decided to butcher our hens this fall and held a small workshop to do this. We also mulched all the new trees we have planted/ spread all the compost and organized Lucky's (the horse) manure with the new compost station. Talking about solar greenhouse and transforming chlorinated pool into living pond. There is a discussion to base our winter workshop on one of these topics.
Agreed - the location is wrong. The farm is further south, but on this side of the river. This site is actually the site of Nassau Forest Gardens...
I purchased a share in this CSA in 2008. It was a complete rip-off. The amount of produce given each week was insulting, especially since I had a work share. I have participated in other CSA's and received more food than I could use in a week. When I stopped coming, they never even asked why. Not recommended!

The apparent location of Hawthorne Valley Farm on your map is incorrect. It belongs on the other side of the Hudson River.
Actually the planters were implemented by someone else, while Claudia designed them. We had bigger plans, but lost our contact at this site and haven't gotten anywhere with the current staff.
