Richmond's Riverfront Plaza, a commercial and office high-rise, earned an Energy Star rating in 2006 from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for its energy conservation and greenhouse gas reduction technologies, including furnishings and heating and cooling systems. It is the first privately held commercial office building in downtown Richmond to receive this recognition.

Currently, the building is pursuing LEED-EB certification for existing buildings from the US Green Building Council.
