The Firth Forth Organic Garden is a project of the extracurricular club Students Opposing Starvation (SOS) at Nyack High School. SOS is involved with feeding hungry people. One way the students do this is by going on Midnight Runs to help feed the homeless of NY City. Some of the produce grown in Firth Forth will be used in soups and sandwiches for Midnight Runs. The garden is located on Christian Herald Road, next to the NHS tennis courts.
Another mission for the garden is to show students where food comes from, and the significance of organic food. Future student research projects may include studies on soils, water, weather, plant growth, etc. A fence will soon put up and the beds will be raised before the spring planting.
150 years ago, our site was farmed by someone named T. Firth. He named his brewery the "Firth Forth Nyack Brewery," presumably after the estuary in Scotland.
