Captain Curt's finished first in the "Great Chowder Cook-off" in Newport, RI, which has been featured on the The Food Network and the CBS Morning Show. This popular Siesta Key seafood restaurant has instituted comprehensive recycling, energy and water conservation measures. Eco-friendly to go containers are provided to patrons. Captain Curt's is even considering installing a food waste bio-reactor that will completely eliminate food waste from their garbage.
Captain Curt's became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2008. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
