Garden Court Eastern Boulevard is currently graded as Silver with Heritage Environmental Management system and a finalist in the Imvelo Responsible Tourism Awards for the 2nd consecutive year ( 2010 for Waste, energy and water management and 2011 for Waste management). Recycling of glass, plastic, paperand used cooking oil is managed by contractors with an on site sorter 6 days a week. Composting of a percentage of kitchen waste is conducted on site and in accordance with Heritage requirements, training in environmental and sustainability issues is ongoing. Energy and water consumption is measured and heat pumps are used for the heating of water. Southern Sun are currently considering the lighting issues to further reduce energy use. Guest awareness regarding water scarcity is practiced and a grey water project is also being investigated currently
