Noordhoek Farm Village sponsors the recycling depot for Noordhoek. Noordhoek Farm Village believes in safeguarding our environment and encourages all Noordhoek residents and visitors to help us recycle our waste. The Recycling depot can be found as you enter Noordhoek Farm Village on the right hand side. Items that can be recycled at the depot include glass, cans and tins, cardboard and paper.

In 2001, NEAG (Noordhoek Environmental Action Group) set up the recycling depot at the entrance to the Noordhoek Farm Village. The depot is sorted and kept clean and tidy by Winston and managed by Karoline Hanks. An estimated 15% of the total waste stream of Noordhoek is recycled from this facitility. This substantial recycling of waste in the South Peninsula area reduces the need for landfill facilities and also results in a more efficient use of primary resources for our country.

Noordhoek FullCycle has set up a large vermicomposting site at its offices in Noordhoek. The food waste from three restaurants at the Noordhoek Farm Village is collected daily and fed to the worms. In keeping with Noordhoek FullCycle's commitment to low technology, low energy solutions (and converting waste into a beneficial resource) the 'waste' is collected by bicycle and trailer, and the vermicompost and vermitea are to be used in the gardens at the Noordhoek Farm Village.

Phumlani Dlongwane cycles the bike and trailer to the Noordhoek Farm Village and back, collects the food and cares for the worms. Phumlani is well qualified for the job - he runs a Bicycle Empowerment Network workshop in Masiphumelele, and the Masiphumelele Youth Cycle Club.
