Overview
Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association is the most important location in Old Chinatown. This is located at 16 Mott Street and CCBA was formed in 1883. It was formed to oversee rival groups of Chinese who had grouped together in a variety of organizations held together by shared surname. CCBA functioned as the unofficial City Hall of Chinatown and it is currently located at 62 Mott Street. Still to this date, CCBA provides services- but mainly in educational area (New York Chinese School and Chinatown daycare center).
