Lansing Town Trail
Overview
The 2.4 mile Phase 1 walking trail on farmland owned by the Town of Lansing opened on January 22, 2011. It is a loop trail mostly in open fields with magnificent views of the Cayuga Lake Valley and hills to the south east. Although intended for hiking, X-C Skiing (rated easy), and snowshoeing, it may be expanded for multipurpose use in the future.
The new Lansing Town Trail meanders 2.4 miles on about 140 acres of town-owned land opposite the Lansing Town Hall. It is designed as a perimeter path with a few interior loops and wonderful views of the Cayuga Lake Valley, the National Forest backbone, Connecticut Hill, and Newfield hills. The trail will initially be used for walking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Phase 1 of the project opens in
January 2011. The goal is to develop about 4 miles of trail covering most of the perimeter of the land with spur paths leading into shaded wooded areas.
