Sarn Helen Community Garden
Overview
The Community Garden, which is spread over an acre of reclaimed allotments, produces a range of seasonal vegetables, as well as plants and flowers. In its three years of existence the team have set up a local food co-op, involving over 150 local volunteers; produced three crops of vegetables to serve an isolated community with few fresh food outlets; and have become exceptional, local champions of sustainable living - running numerous litter-picks, rubbish amnesties and, most recently, an organic food fair in the community. The Sarn Helen Community Garden has made a huge difference to the community, inspiring others to not only eat and live healthily, but to live sustainable lives. They have set an example of grass-roots community sustainable development that can inspire others.
