6BC Botanical Garden
Overview
The 6BC garden includes hundreds of plants, native plants as well as many that were immigrants to New York
Unlike many botanical gardens, 6BC is a community garden that volunteers started to build on a rubble-strewn empty lot in the early 1980s.
Since then, the garden's story has been one of constant challenge and change.
The garden is completely cared for and run by community members, and they work with a variety of community garden coalitions and enviromental groups to ensure the continued health of all community gardens--and a greener future for all of us.
The garden is also complete run by solar powered energy collected on site, and stands as a example for all gardens in New York City!
