沙鹿鎮公所光復之初，縣以下分別設有縣轄市公所及區署，於是沙鹿街改稱沙鹿鎮，隸屬於台中縣。62年，鄉鎮公所辦理各項社會行政業務，概有社會救助、社區發展、兒童福利、老人福利、垃圾處理、公墓管理、社會服務等。其中將社區發展視為每年度施政重點計畫。76度起，繼續推動「台灣社區發展後續第二期5年計畫」；迄今，本鎮興建社區21個，並建有社區活動中心、社區長壽俱樂部，設有媽媽教室、托兒所。顯示本鎮社區發展工作已有相當成果。

At the beginning of Restoration in Shalu Township, the county respectively established townships and
districts. Therefore, Shalu St. was changed to Shalu Township, belonging to Taichung County. In 1973,
the government of townships managed all kinds of social administration, such as social assistance,
community development, children welfare, elderly welfare, and garbage management, cemetery
management, social services, etc.
Community development is one of the important plans every year. Since 1987, the government has
continually implemented the second period of ”5-Year Plan of T.C.D ”. There are 21 communities, in
Shalu Township, where they process community centers, community elderly clubs, mothering
classrooms and kindergartens. It shows that community development has produced a tremendous fruit
in Shalu Township.
