Corumbe Arte & Casa
Overview
History of this Location
This art store, owned by local Luzia Valmores, has been in business since 2000. It is accessible by foot, but not a street where cars are allowed. When she started it up, the store was only a 1/3 of the size it is today but was able to buy from her neighbors and expand. Very little is specifically from Paraty, but most of the products sold are made and bought from Brazilian artists. The owner also buys from a group of local women who come together and do crafts.
Language: Spanish
Sustainable Features
Some products come with the Seal IQs (a seal from the Institute of Sustainable Quality), which means that this product is ecologically correct, socially fair, and economically viable. The crafts fro the local women are usually made from recycled paper and fabrics. Although the bags are not recyclable, the store is working to implement them. There are 3 employees, all from Paraty. There is also no AC, but a lot of open windows and open to garden which helps the ventilation and air flow. They also use energy efficient bulbs.
