Opened in 2003, the Virginia Division of Consolidated Laboratory Services (DCLS) is a three-story, 191,000 square-foot office and laboratory facility that performs more than 4 million scientific tests each year that help ensure a safe and healthy environment for Virginians and others; substances tested include air, water, food, gasoline, animal feeds, and fertilizers. DCLS is also responsible for testing blood samples of all infants born in Virginia, examining human specimens for disease control, and responding to diverse health and environmental emergencies in Virginia.
