Shafer Court Dining Center
Overview
Shafer Court offers student and faculty dining. The dining center uses solar thermal energy to heat the dining center's water resulting in a GHG emission reduction of 111 MTCDE.The dining center also reuses most of its fryer oil to be refined into bio-diesel fuel. Dishware is either compostable or reusable, and paper products are produced from recyclable content. To reduce energy consumption the dining center uses energy stat appliances, high efficiency air hand dryers, and motion detecting light sensors. To reduce water consumption, the dining center uses low flow water faucets and toilets and ionically charged water to clean the floors. Lastly, the dining center uses a "green" floor sealer to reduce the number of times the floor needs to be waxed.
