The Virginia Department of Transportation is focused on roadway and vehicular travel. VDOT provides a range of services, from corridor and regional studies and general transportation planning to construction of the Virginia Capital Trail. VDOT is also working with Richmond and other cities to emphasize pedestrian and bicycle transit as can be seen in their Policy for Integrating Bicycle and Pedestrian Accommodations. In addition to these services, VDOT provides a wealth of information including: making all plans available to the public, maintaining up to date maps and providing information for routes on which hazardous materials are transported.
