This Sarasota County park, also known as Paulsen Point, was occupied from approximately 1000 BC-1350 AD. Ancient people were attracted by the abundance of seafood, the mainstay of their diet. Groups such as the Manasota Culture created ingenious ways to use natural resources to craft their clothes, tools, vessels and ornaments.
Indian Mound provides a rare opportunity to visit a significant Indian Mound site.
The contoured landscape is a direct result of Indian habitation. The Indians were attracted to this spot for the availability of resources on land and in the bay. The suitability of this spot for early inhabitation is still evident to park visitors today.
Trail of Florida's Indian Heritage is a great source of information about the ancient people who occupied the area that is now known as the Indian Mound Park. The website also provides vast information about much of Florida's archaeology and Indian heritage.
Indian Mound Park provides access to Lemon Bay and it is a key boat launching site in southern Sarasota County.
