Trondheim
Kristiansten festning: Fortress of the city Trondheim
Overview
The Kristiansten fortress was built after the great city fire in 1681. From its strategic high ground the fortress played an important role in repelling invading Swedish forces in 1718.
It is located in parkland on a hill east of the city centre. People can enjoy a spectacular view over Trondheim and its surroundings, the fjord and the mountains.
The gates of the fortress are open while the flag is raised, but the museum inside is open from June to August only.
