Mountain Lakes Preserve
76 acres
Mountain Lakes Preserve lies in a forested valley of mixed, old growth woods surrounded by open fields and streams. The Preserve’s man-made lakes were once used for producing ice in the days before mechanical refrigeration. Now, along with the surrounding woods, they provide important habitat for local wildlife, including a great blue heron that is regularly seen foraging along Mountain Lakes’ shores. A network of maintained trails takes visitors around the lakes, through rich forests of ash, maples, and oaks, and across open wetlands. The preserve’s northern trails feature some of the Preserve’s oldest trees, including a large, beautiful beech and cluster of northern red oaks.

Location: Parking is available off Mountain Avenue. Visitors can enter through the Community Park North parking area, or through the long paved driveway that extends from the gate at 57 Mountain Ave. (The driveway, itself, is a popular site for walkers and joggers.)
