Congregation love of Israel, Gates of Torah
Visão geral
The Sixth Street Community Center now occupies the space of this former tenement synagogue in the East Village.
The former synagogue is also home to "the best neighborhood murals of famous labor activist Emma Goldman (anarchist and social critic).
The marble memorial plaques have names in Yiddish, Hebrew and English. Goldman's caption reads "She spoke, wrote and conspired. Opposed the state, religion and capitalism. She fought for...the 8 hour day. Worked as a seamstress and midwife, loved dancing and theater..."
