John Van Doren House

Built in 1756 for John Van Doren and his family. Its primary claim to fame was its one night as a sleeping quarters for George Washington and his army in early 1777 after the defeat of the British and Hessians in the Battles of Trenton and Princeton. According to legend, when the Brits arrived at the Van Doren house, they tortured the family in the basement, trying to acquire information about Washington's army.
