Hershey Montessori School - Solar PV, Composting, Gardening
Visão geral
The 22,000 sq. ft. main building has all electric forced air heating, cooling and hot water from 11 geothermal wells using (8) 2-ton heat pumps.
The Community Center has approximately 22 wells similarly installed.
The Bioshelter is a 32x60 greenhouse designed to provide year round fresh organic produce using sunlight and local resources. Inside in operation is a composting reactor for animal waste, which provides heated air into gravel storage and plant beds, along with a separate composting toilet.
Adjacent to the Bioshelter is an extensive “program barn” and woodshop which is powered by a grid connected 2 kilowatt solar array mounted on its roof. The barn has infrared heaters that can be turned on over individual work stations as needed.
There is also a composting chamber that is used to compost manure which produces heat for a raised bed garden.
