Venice Golf & Country Club recycles more than 55 percent of its waste stream, which saves nearly $3,000 annually in avoided collection and disposal costs. It buys recycled-content products, including water-permeable recycled tire paving material for golf cart paths. The Club composts grass clipping and landscaping debris and applies it to the finished golf course. The Club is committed on reducing energy consumption and improving efficiencies. The Venice Golf & Country Club uses geothermal to heat swimming pools and spas, captures heat from air conditioning and refrigeration units, and replaces lights with LED light bulbs.

In 2012, the Venice Golf and Country Club earned the status of GEO Certified™. This prestigious international award signifies that the course has met comprehensive and advanced sustainability requirements and is committed to continually improving our environmental performance across the areas of landscape & ecosystems; water; energy & resources; products & supply chains; environmental quality and people & communities.

Certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, the course plants Florida native and drought-resistant plants and trees, while eradicating invasive species. The golf club has established no fertilizer zones around its waterways and sensitive habitats, and its stormwater system is state-of-the-art.

Venice Golf and County Club became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2006. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County. This community association participates in the Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program for Community Associations. This program promotes sustainable landscape and natural areas management practices that reduce the nutrient load in stormwater runoff, by providing educational assistance to officers and board members of community associations and neighborhoods, and their associated property management and landscape maintenance contractors. This UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County program offers on-site educational programs that include recommendations on overall design, selection and maintenance of plants, and problem areas. The program also offers presentations to groups on a variety of topics including Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Principles, Improving Irrigation Efficiency, Native Plants, Selecting a Landscape Maintenance Company and others. Of the more than 500 participating communities represented on this map, approximately 90% have implemented changes to create landscapes that are more ecologically in step with the surrounding environment. For more information about the Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program for Community Associations, please contact UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County.
