The Saranac Brewery was founded in 1889 and has become an important part of the Utica area. The Brewery has been working towards making its processes more environmentally friendly. The Brewery sells 100% of the grain they have used to make beer to New York State farmers to be used as feed. They are also recycling the packing they use for their projects.
As well as supporting environmental sustainability in the Utica area, the Saranac Brewery is helping to sustain the cultural character of Utica. During the summer, the Brewery holds "Saranac Thursdays". Musicians, many from the Utica area, hold concerts on these nights. The event encourages a sense of community, as well as helping to support a fairly environmentally friendly local business. Visitors (children too) are also welcome to tour the Brewery.
