This map plots the cultural ecology of the Wentlooge and Caldicot Levels a large coastal area of wetlands of high biodiversity an multiple statutory conservation value. The purpose is to examine the drift towards a more inclusionary and deliberative conservation politics in the modern age, to assess how far attempts to incorporate such approaches have worked in conservation management, and to take a cool, hard look at its prospects in an emerging world where enduring ecosystem services may well have to be participatory.
