The Richmond Federal Courthouse, named after Spottswood W. Robinson III and Robert R. Merhige Jr., late federal judges from Richmond, is a 336,961 square-foot, seven story building of offices, courtrooms, and a six-story glass atrium. The Richmond Federal courthouse is currently registered to receive a LEED-NC Silver certification. The Courthouse incorporates recycling programs, intelligent land use, minimized construction waste, environmentally preferable building materials, and sustainable design features. The Courthouse project sought to create a quality indoor environment for users of the space.
