The Center for Building Hope is a non-profit organization that provides free psychological, social and educational services for cancer patients, their loved ones and caregivers. With professionally-led support groups and educational workshops, people impacted by cancer learn vital skills to restore hope, regardless of the stage of their disease.

In October 2010, The Center for Building Hope opened the only Gold LEED green healthcare facility in Southwest Florida. The building is constructed from the most eco-friendly materials -- there are no harmful chemicals in the paint, wood, concrete, adhesives, sealants, etc. This produces a healthy environment for participants with compromised immunity. The building has numerous energy and water-saving features including generous natural lighting, room lighting sensors and self-dimming lights, compact fluorescent lights, low-flow sinks, and low-flow restroom facilities. The facility has hydration stations and large recycling kiosks, encouraging further recycling participation by patients, guests and visitors. The facility is situated on a parcel of land located on a nature preserve and overlooks a beautiful vista of natural scenery and wildlife. The Center for Building Hope has intertwined green measures with health, wellness and comfort of their visitors in mind.

The Center for Building Hope became a Sarasota County Green Business Partner in 2013. The Green Business Partnership (GBP) encourages environmental stewardship in the commercial sector, and recognizes businesses that make an extra effort to operate in an environmentally responsible manner. This collaborative effort includes businesses, business organizations and local governments. The GBP was initiated through a grant awarded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to Sarasota County.
