I gardened here in 2009 when I lived closer to the gardens. It's a great opportunity for a first-time or long-time gardener. The people who garden here are generally exceptionally nice, and you can get a lot of veggies into a 20X20 plot. It's also fun to look around-- many people use the gardens as opportunities to show off their landscaping skills.
The only serious downside is that they roto-till the gardens in the winter (to expose ground-dwelling insects and aerate the soil, both of which are good things), which means you cannot plant garlic or any perennial plants.
Interesting route - let's ride it soon! :)
