In the cloister of the now ruined abbey, the monks of Culross produced illuminated manuscripts, such as the Culross Psalter which was written in the late 15th century, for their own use or for their patrons. The Abbey itself was founded for the Cistercians by Malcolm, Earl of Fife, in 1217. The church was restored in 1633.
