The Sesquicentennial Rose Garden contains over 250 types of roses. The garden was planted in 1992 to commemorate the sesquicentennial of Willamette University. Initially, 150 roses were planted one to celebrate each year of the University’s existence. Today a number of the roses have been purchased and dedicated by individuals and groups. The garden includes floribundas, grandifloras, hybrid teas, climbers and English roses. Beneath this garden lies a time capsule which students buried in 1992. It is scheduled to be opened in 2042 as part of the University’s bicentennial celebration.
