In 2012 the Waldorf School of Baltimore is adding an Experimental Composting Program - students collect composting materials from the school's gardens and the food waste from lunch and events. The waste is distributed between four alternative composting systems: a demonstration bio-digester; insulated tumblers; outdoor wooden composting bins; worm bins. The students are responsible for collecting the composting material. They measure waste and the by-products of composting, comparing the benefits of each approach. Hands-on learning, in the messiest sense! Chaddie Hughes
Love this place!
Charmington's is a great little neighborhood coffee-shop and cafe, the perfect change of scenery for an overworked student needing a caffeinated pick-me-up. My roommates and I go there fairly frequently, armed with our laptops and books. There's free wi-fi (except for one hour during lunch), tables and chairs, and some plush couches. The coffee is great, though I'm actually partial to the chai. Check it out!
The new mosaic at the front of the school is BEAUTIFUL!!!!
The Waldorf School of Baltimore became a Maryland Green School in the spring of 2010! Its program is so experientially-based that kids are interacting with nature all of the time. From zero-waste events ... to outdoor play every day... to organic gardening ... to camping ... to community service projects ... to site-based studies, environmental education goes beyond book learning. This fall the school welcomed new neighbors - a hive of 80,000 honey bees. How sweet! I'm an alumna parent and love to watch this school get better and better...and greener and greener. This may be my new favorite place to get books!
It reaffirms people's belief in the goodness of their fellow city-dwellers and saves money and paper by allowing people to enjoy someone else's old book rather than purchase a new copy.
The Book Thing is a shining beacon of the principles of reuse and community building. People bring their lightly used books here by the boxfull, and other folks who want them come and take them away. It reaffirms people's belief in the goodness of their fellow city-dwellers and saves money and paper by allowing people to enjoy someone else's old book, rather than purchase a new copy. submitted by Abby Cocke

This is a great consignment shop for women. Everything from designer bags to basic jeans.
The NW Sanitation Yard is a great place to take your electronics for e-cycling. They have about 10 bins that get cleaned up often.
My mother, who just passed away at the age of 92, recorded in her memory book of her visits to Mother's Garden. She said there were "roses galore" and it was a favorite place to visit, especially on Sunday afternoons. Sounds like she would have been visiting there when it was still "new".
I walked the area and found it to be suitable for a disc golf course (18-27 holes).
I love this library and spent so much of my childhood here. I'm happy it is mapped.
There's a building right beside the metro station for parking. It's open 24 hours and it's free; no ticket needed or anything. But I'm not sure if there are security guards there, so it's best not to leave your vehicle overnight.. Just for safety reasons.
This arboretum/park is just lovely. Beautiful woodland trails, historic mansion, and great family programs. Gorgeous in all seasons. Don't forget to stop by the Cylburn Nature Museum, I won't ruin the surprise. Its contents are super!
The water is not safe for contact or drinking due to sewage contamination or run-off. Please see the Baltimore City Health Department for more info.
The Charm City Circulator is so convenient and not mention it's free. Even more, the NextBus app approximates arrival time at a chosen stop.
There is outdoor gym equipment scattered around the walking/biking course, making it a great place to work out!
Designed by George A Frederick, architect of Baltimore City Hall and many other historic Baltimore buildings.
