Sited on a high point in Clifton Park, the Board of Park Commissioners dedicated the garden to all the mothers of Baltimore in 1926. In 1984, Mayor William Donald Schaefer restored and rededicated the garden to his mom Tululu Schaefer. A new Master Plan for Clifton Park includes improvements. The Friends of Mothers' Garden Group organizes periodic clean ups.

I like the Mothers Garden because on a special day you could go here. If someone is happy you could take them there and they might get excited. That is why I like the Mothers Garden.

My mother, who just passed away at the age of 92, recorded in her memory book of her visits to Mother's Garden. She said there were "roses galore" and it was a favorite place to visit, especially on Sunday afternoons. Sounds like she would have been visiting there when it was still "new".
