The headquarters of the Ministry of Justice is famous for its reflecting pools and the facade displaying water cascades and hanging gardens. Lucio Costa created a different plan for both Justice and External Affairs headquarters, as opposed to the other alike ministries. As a result, he positioned the two palaces next to the National Congress. Oscar Niemeyer, in turn, conceived twin buildings, of the same height, resting over watersurfaces that reflect their beautifull shapes.
The inside library houses 80 thousand books, inlcuding German Collection, with focus on the work by german Goethe in Latin America, considered to be the most important in Latin America; rare books dating as early as 1498; all Brazilian laws passed between 1808 and 2001 and reports issued by the Ministry as of 1832. The palace also holds a pergola garden by Burle Marx, a panel made with 2,090 stainless steel blocks from Germany and a Carrara marble stone engraved with a manuscript by Jose Bonifacio creating the Ministry back in 1822. In 2006, the palace was renamed after Raymundo Faoro Brazilian jurist, sociologist, historian, cientist, politician, writer and former president of the Brazilian Bar Association.
Hours: Mon to Fri: 9am to 11am and 3pm to 5pm.
