Hermanuspietersfontein Boerdery is in the Sondagskloof Wine Ward. The picturesque 320Ha Biodiversity and Wine Initiative (BWI) Champion Farm nestles in the mountainous valley area close to Stanford and the Atlantic Ocean.

Our farm enjoys a unique terroir delivering a distinct style and blend of its own. The westerly slopes are more suited to Bordeaux cultivars - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Sauvignon blanc and Semillon - while the easterly slopes favour Rhône cultivars such as Shiraz, Mourvèdre, Grenache and Viognier.

Due to its elevation our vineyards benefit from the cool Atlantic Ocean breezes, which creates the unique microclimate that plays a significant role in the character of our wines.

In addition to the winter rainfall we enjoy the occasional summer showers from the southeast. The prevailing south-easterly summer winds combined with 187 – 332m above sea level make this pocket ±2°C cooler than the neighbouring area. Annual rainfall - 650 mm; soils vary from weathered shale to granite and gravel topsoil with a clay based sub-soil.

A haven for a variety of fauna including: leopard, duiker, reebok, cerval and baboon. All freely roaming the land.

Untouched slopes are covered in fynbos; other large tracts of nature have been left in the pristine way in which we found it. On the other hand a great deal has gone into clearing our land of invasive alien species.

Hermanuspietersfontein Boerdery - has been a member of BWI since 2007. Our goal: to limit loss of threatened natural habitat and promote sustainable wine production through biodiversity friendly farming practices.
