World Bird Sanctuary
Übersicht
The World Bird Sanctuary was founded in 1977 by Ornithologist Walter C. Crawford, Jr., whom began his career at the St. Louis Zoo working Marlin Perkins, whom was both the Zoo's Director at the time. Crawford felt that there was a need for an orgnization dedicated to birds of prey, and so the World Bird Sanctuary was born. The Sanctuary is located on 305 acres of land that was formerly used to hold munitions by the U.S. Army during WWII. It is still directed by Crawford, and it has a full-time staff of 25 people. The World Bird Sanctuary has a hospital for injured birds, and it also has a Propagation Department dedicated to captive breeding and releasing endangered birds of prey. It is free to the public.
