Umhlanga Lagoon Nature Reserve comprises lagoon, wetland, sandy shore and dune forest ecosystems. The 26ha reserve offers good birding, such as sightings of the Brown throated Weaver and Wattle-eyed Flycatcher. Other attractions include rare trees, such as Coastal Red Milkwood trees, and Blue Duiker, which are easily observed.

Driving Directions: Travel on the Ruth First Freeway (M4) north from Durban to Umhlanga. Take Umhlanga Drive off-ramp and turn right. Travel east then turn left into Lagoon Drive at the Civic Centre. Travel to the end of the road. The entrance to the reserve is located just past the Breakers Beach Hotel.
