Second Ave. Deli
Übersicht
The Second Ave. Deli opened in 1954 on Second Ave. and 10th street in the east Village. The original owner, Abe Lebewohl, who was a holocaust survivor, was killed during a robbery in 1996. In 2007 the restaurant moved uptown to 33rd street between Lexington Ave. and Third Ave. The original 2nd Ave. location is now a Chase bank.
Outside the original Deli on 2nd Ave. in the East Village is the Yiddish Walk of Fame. Names of 50 stars of the old Yiddish theater are embedded in plaques on the sidewalk. Inside there used to be a room dedicated to Molly Picon, an iconic Yiddish actress.
