Overview

No votes yet

Just 6km from the centre of Swansea city lies the unusual Cadle Heath Local Nature Reserve. It is representative of a declining habitat and is the only example in West Glamorgan of wet heath and marshy grassland. The open grassland and woodland make it ideal for a quiet walk while the range of plant and wildlife make it a valuable educational tool. See if you can spot the wide range of birds which nest and visit - there are 31 species in all. The heath is open all year.

Further Information
To be considered as a Local Nature Reserve, the land in question has to have natural features of special interest to the local area. LNR's help protect biodiversity, but also help to forge links between the community and their natural surroundings, creating a learning enviornment for everyone.

9th June 2012: First visit to a site I'd passed many times before but never explored. Really surprised by this island of natural beauty and diversity. I will visit again methinks!
