Tullohill Cottage

Historical Feature

Overview

No votes yet

Tullohill cottage is thought to be the oldest surviving cottage in Saline. It was built in 1714 as the parish schoolhouse though it was possibly not the first schoolhouse in Saline. This building continued as the schoolhouse until 1800. On Ainslie’s 1775 map, the name given for the immediate area is, however, “Tilly Hill”, “tilly” being an old Scottish word that describes unproductive clay soil.

My mother lived for a time in "Hazel Cottage" in Saline and I believe it was close to Tullohill farm. Does anyone know it's actual location? Regards, Tom McIntosh - Tulloch-ard@hotmail.com
