According to The High Line's website, wherever possible, they strive to make sustainable choices as they planned, built and maintain what they call the world's 'longest green roof'. Built on an old rail line, most of the High Line’s plants are native species, and mostly locally grown. The High Line does not use pesticides or chemical fertillizers, and they are in the process of establishing on-site compost facilities.

Bike racks are located at the following locations along the High Line: Gansevoort, 16th, 18th, and 20th Street. You can enter at 14th Street via an elevator on the south side of the street. Phase 2, now under construction, adds 10 blocks going north to this popular promenade.
