Square of the Three Powers
Descripción
One of the main postcards of Brasilia, this vast square houses the country’s administration - the Legislative, the Executive and the Judiciary branches of power. According to planner Lucio Costa, the three buildings intended for the fundamental powers stand out in the esplanade. Some changes to the original project were needed due to embankments made ot accomodate the buildings of the National Congress, Federal Supreme Court and the Planalto Palace, causing the loss of the perception of a triangular plan, as originally conceived.
The Square is a flat esplanate with white Portuguese mosaic floor, holding, in addition, the Museum of the City of Brasilia, the Lucio Costa Space, the Pigeon House, the Tancredo Neves Pantheon, the Brasilia World Heritage Site Landmark, the Israel Pinheiro monument, the Country's Pantheon and the Pyre of the Country, all designed by Oscar Niemeyer. Sculptures and other monuments complement this civic site: the Flag Mast, by architect Sergio Bernardes, an the sculptures Warriors and the Justice.
