Lasker Pool
Descripción
Lasker Pool is located in North Central Park, facing the Harlem Meer. During the summer it serves as a recreational spot for children and adults to swim. During the winter, the water is frozen and made into an ice skating and high school hockey rink. Lasker Pool opened in 1966 after being fought against by the Parks Commissioner at the time, Newbold Morris. People who opposed the creation of the pool argued that it would be an eyesore and that it was destroying sacred ground, seeing as it was replacing part of the Meer. The pool got built anyway however, and the majority of the public liked it and so it stayed. Even today however, there are people who think that it should be removed but the people who look at it as a source of enjoyment outweigh them.
