This small, historic house from the early 1800s is a designated landmark. It was given to a freed slave, which is why it is known as the "slave house."

I hope that Montclair will not let the building fall into complete disrepair, as it appears to be doing. It had been occupied up until a few years ago; it now looks empty with a few of the windows boarded up. I have seen similar buildings awaiting renovation in Newark, allowed to sink into complete decay, and subsequently (and conveniently) torn down.
