Wolf Run Regional Park, located one mile east of Mt. Vernon, is made up of 288 acres of open space, nature trails, wetlands, a pond, and natural habitats. The park is home to the endangered yellow bellied sapsucker, a small woodpecker, which inhabits a wooded area in the park for foraging and shelter. Granite boulders from Ohio's last ice age--100,000 year ago--have been carried to the park, and streams flowing to the Kokosing run through the landscape. There is also a "bark park," nearly two acre fenced-in area for dogs. Visitors are welcome to hike or to fish.
