Two Rain Gardens on Campus! One located at Gabriel E. Danch CIM Center and the other at Jefferson Hall.

History:

The Camden County College rain gardens were installed to beautify the site and to intercept, treat, and infiltrate stormwater runoff from the rooftops of the Gabriel E. Danch CIM Center and Jefferson Hall buildings, respectively. These rain gardens were installed to serve as a demonstration for faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

Type of Runoff Managed:

These rain gardens manage stormwater runoff from the rooftops of the Gabriel E. Danch CIM Center and Jefferson Hall buildings, respectively.

Installation:

The Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Resources Program staff, Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Camden County, Camden County Soil Conservation District, South Jersey Land and Water Trust, and approximately seventy-five Camden County College faculty, staff, and students were present for the installation of the rain gardens in October 2010, which was approved by Camden County College. Staff from the Camden County College Engineering Department assisted with the labor of installing the rain gardens. A backhoe was used to remove a portion of the native soil in the rain gardens. Topsoil was then mixed with the native soil. The native plants that were installed in the rain gardens were purchased from Pinelands Nursery & Supply. This rain garden was funded a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
