The mission of the Environmental Health Division is to promote, achieve, protect and maintain safe and healthy environmental conditions for residents and visitors within the City of Akron.

The Division achieves these goals by combining traditional inspection programs with innovative new programs developed to meet emerging challenges with the potential to impact the health and welfare of the people living and working in the City.

Activities in the Division are carried out by Registered Sanitarians who have specialized knowledge and skills in the varied program areas in environmental health. These program areas include protecting the food and water we eat and drink, disposal of liquid and solid wastes, protection of the soil and groundwater around our homes, pest and mosquito control and how our health and safety are affected by the actions of those living and working around us.
