The Virginia Association of Counties is a historically renovated building that incorporates a 3,000 square-foot green roof completed in 2008. The green roof offers several advantages to a traditional roof, including the use of rain water runoff for plants, reduction of the urban "heat island" effect, and improved building heating and cooling efficiency. The building is certified LEED Gold from the US Green Building Council, incorporating features such as day lighting, energy efficient windows, low VOC (volatile organic compounds) paints and furnishings, and low-flow plumping features.
Tours of the building and the green roof available, no appointment necessary.
