Jose Coronado Playground, a small urban park in the Mission District of San Francisco, provides a soccer playing field, tennis court, and a tot-lot to the neighborhood that surrounds it. In 1982 Raymond Patlan was commissioned to paint a mural on the retaining wall that runs the length of one side of the park (Shotwell street to Folsom street). At the time it was called Folsom Park. Ray painted the mural, titled Barrio Folsom, with neighborhood teenagers. The imagery was selected by the young people and included vintage cars and flags celebrating the Chicano heritage of local residents and park users.
